About the Hackathon

The defining hackathon for the future of learning

Education is the highest-leverage problem of our time. Billions of students lack access to quality instruction. The world's best teachers can't scale. And the gap between what AI can do and what classrooms actually use has never been wider.

EdTech 3.0 is the global hackathon built to close that gap — in seven days.

We bring together the world's most ambitious ML engineers, EdTech founders, researchers, and educators to build pilot-ready AI agents that transform real learning outcomes. Unlike most hackathons, EdTech 3.0 isn't about demos — it's about deployment-ready solutions.

You'll build across one of four structured challenge tracks, guided by 20 global mentors with deep expertise in AI, pedagogy, and EdTech products — and your work will be evaluated by a panel of 30 judges drawn from top technology companies, world-leading universities, and the most respected online learning platforms on the planet.

This event is backed by media coverage across global platforms, industry press, and thought-leadership publications. The projects built here will be seen.

Challenge Tracks

Four tracks. One mission: transform how the world learns.

Each track is built around a high-stakes, real-world problem in education. You'll have access to structured mentor sessions, curated datasets or APIs, and track-specific workshops led by practitioners who have worked on exactly these problems.

# Track 01

AI Tutors & Personalized Learning

# The best human tutors adapt in real time to how a student thinks, struggles, and succeeds. AI can now do this at planetary scale.

primary_goal="Build intelligent tutoring agents that personalise learning paths, adjust difficult…"

stack="OpenAI API + LangChain + Vercel AI SDK"

# Track 02

Assessment & Feedback Automation

# Teachers spend up to 40% of their time on administrative tasks. Grading, feedback, progress reporting — time that should go to students.

primary_goal="Build agents that automate assessment intelligently: not just marking answers right…"

stack="OpenAI + Claude + RAG"

# Track 03

Accessibility & Inclusive Learning

# Quality education remains inaccessible to hundreds of millions of students — because of language, disability, geography, or economic circumstance.

primary_goal="Build agents that break these barriers: multilingual tutors, tools for learners wit…"

stack="Whisper + ElevenLabs + GPT-4"

# Track 04

Real Classroom AI (Live Use Case)

# For teams with access to a real educational partner, school, or learning environment. Build, test, and document your agent in a live setting.

EdTech 3.0 Winners

Celebrating the builders who pushed AI learning agents forward.

🏆 Track Winners
🥇 Track Winner

Mother Tongue Keeper

Accessibility & Inclusive Learning

A community-in-the-loop agent that preserves endangered and minority languages by turning elders' recordings into culturally grounded bilingual lessons and stories for children. Instead of scraped data, it grows its coverage directly from the communities it serves — a genuine answer to the low-resource-language problem.

🥇 Track Winner

Ghost Teacher

Real Classroom AI (Live Use Case)

A classroom co-pilot deployed alongside a real teacher: it generates differentiated materials across three reading levels, drafts parent progress notes, and flags students silently falling behind — backed by real before/after data gathered during the week, exactly the real-world evidence Track 04 rewards.

🥇 Track Winner

Metacognition Coach

AI Tutors & Personalized Learning

An agent that teaches students how to learn. It detects cramming versus spaced practice, prompts self-explanation, schedules spaced-repetition reviews, and asks students to predict their own scores to build calibration — grounded in cognitive science and a persistent longitudinal learner model.

🥇 Track Winner

Voice Bridge

AI Tutors & Personalized Learning

A low-bandwidth multilingual tutor delivered over plain phone calls, WhatsApp voice, and 2G — reaching learners with no smartphone or reliable internet. Inference runs server-side so only audio crosses the wire, and code-switching support handles learners who mix languages mid-sentence.

🎨 Bonus Awards — $100 each
🚀
Most Creative Build

Rights & Rerouting

A learning agent that teaches refugee and minority youth to navigate the real-world systems around them — enrolling in school, accessing healthcare, and understanding asylum processes — in their own language, adapted to their host country, and grounded in verified official sources for safety.

🗳️
Community Choice Award

SkillSync

Reads the notes, assignments, and projects you already produce, then benchmarks the skills inside them against the real-world requirements of your target career. Built at JKUAT, made for the African graduate.

🗳️
Community Choice Award

AlgoLens. Not a linter. A pedagogue.

Deterministic AST contract verification, live execution-trace animation, and Socratic feedback for algorithmic patterns. No test runner, no Big-O guessing, and no LLM in the detection path.

🎭
Best Vibe Project & Assessment & Feedback Automation

EduGrade AI

A multi-agent assessment system built entirely on the Python standard library, with a roadmap toward LMS integration, voice feedback, batch grading, and multi-language support.
